International Women’s Day is back on the 8th March 2022 and celebrates women across the world.
This year the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce spoke with Fearn Ainsworth to discuss their theme #BreakTheBias.
We’ve got so many amazing women across Norfolk doing incredible things so the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce are celebrating them across the month of March. They also got some inspirational women who work within Norfolk Chambers of Commerce, and shining the light on them too.
Norfolk Chamber Member, Fearn Ainsworth answered a few questions…
Why is supporting women in business so important?
Having a gender-diverse business yields better consumer insight, and in turn, a more profitable business. Women should be seen as equals in the business community and can only add to the skill set of current boards
What do you or your business do to support women in your teams?
We have a larger women-to-male ratio at the RNAA and have a flexible approach to work-life balance for all our team members. We understand the need for all staff to be able to continue professional development and try to support this where we can.
What skills do you feel are the biggest asset that women have in the workplace?
We have compassion and understanding while understanding the commercial needs of a business this empathy I believe gives us an edge in our business relationships and determination to achieve our goals.
What challenges do women face in the workplace that are different to men?
I believe there is often a stereotype that we aren’t as dedicated or hard-working. When actually I’ve worked with lots of hard-working and successful women over the years. I do personally believe in life balance, but I will work my hardest as well.
What advice would you give to male colleagues to support women in the workplace?
Collaborative working- working together as a team is the best way forward in any organisation whether it’s a b2b or b2c organisation. Communication is key and an understanding of individuals’ personal needs and commercial goals.
What top tips would you give your younger self when it comes to business?
Keep pushing through the tough start of the career ladder because you will exceed the expectations originally put upon you by others.
