Opportunities Fund

We provide charitable grant funding, bursaries and scholarships for successful applicants to undertake exciting learning and development opportunities.

The RNAA Opportunities Fund

Launched in 2022, RNAA Opportunities Fund supports young people considering a career in farming or seeking to develop their skills and experience.

Each year, the generosity of donors means that we can offer a range of grants, bursaries, mentoring, scholarships and other support to those seeking to broaden their horizons and to explore the range of options open to them. Beneficiaries become part of the RNAA family, representing and giving a voice to the next generation.

Throughout the year we provide charitable grant funding, bursaries and scholarships for successful applicants to undertake exciting learning and development opportunities. The purpose of the Opportunities Fund is to raise aspirations and enable potential to be developed.

Our Scholarship programmes

For over 175 years, the RNAA has been at the heart of Norfolk’s agricultural community.

Norfolk Scholars

We aim each year to offer six young people from Norfolk the chance to participate in the Oxford Farming Conference Scholars programme.

The conference is the premier event in the farming calendar and scholars take part in a wrap-around programme, giving the opportunity for professional development and making new friends. Candidate selection takes place in August-September annually.

Norfolk Commonwealth Scholars

The Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth (RASC) biannual conference enables the RNAA to send two Next Generation delegates from Norfolk to explore farming topics in an international context.

Our Commonwealth Scholars often go on to develop contacts with other Next Gen delegates from across the Commonwealth. Candidate selection takes place in the run-up to the RASC conference.

Norfolk International Scholarship

For over 175 years, the RNAA has been at the heart of Norfolk’s agricultural community.

This partnership between the Norwich Institute for Sustainable Development, RNAA and JC Mann Charitable Trust gives a young person the opportunity to undertake a three-month study, including international travel, into a topic relevant to farming in Norfolk. Candidate selection is run by the Norwich Institute for Sustainable Development.

Nuffield Farming Scholarship

Each year, the RNAA aims to support an outstanding leader of the future to undertake a Nuffield Scholarship.

This life changing opportunity gives the chance to study a topic in depth and across the world. Scholars travel abroad for a minimum of seven weeks, drawing research together into a report shared with the RNAA and the wider farming community. Candidate selection is run by Nuffield Farming Scholarships.

John Innes Foundation Undergraduate Bursary Scheme

Working with the John Innes Foundation, the RNAA administrates the application and selection process for undergraduate bursaries.

Supporting young people studying agriculture, or a related subject, the bursaries cover the tuition fees for a three or four-year course. The selection process is advertised by the Food and Farming Discovery Trust.

More Opportunities

The RNAA takes a flexible and responsive approach. Some of our other opportunities include:

  • Royal Norfolk Show Student Ambassadors programme – for sixth formers/college students.
  • Bursary support for people in full time education to attend Agri-TechE’s annual REAP Conference.
  • Grants to attend conferences and gain qualifications/skills.
  • Providing grant support and office space to the Federation of Norfolk Young Farmers’ Clubs.
