The Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association (RNAA) is proud to be supporting the achievements and ambitions of 2026 Norfolk Scholar Samuel Payne, a livestock farmer at North Farm Livestock based in North Norfolk, who began his postgraduate study at the Royal Agricultural University September 2026.
Samuel is from a non-traditional farming background and is undertaking the REALM MSc programme, marking a significant step in his professional development and commitment to contributing to the future of UK agriculture.

In his current role, Samuel works as a livestock farmer, supporting a range of farm operations including logistics, catching teams and wider business development activities. He also represents his organisation at agricultural conferences, actively seeking opportunities to broaden his knowledge and experience. His work is firmly rooted in Norfolk’s farming community, where he is known for his motivation, curiosity and dedication to continuous learning.
Samuel’s participation in the RNAA’s Norfolk Scholars programme has already provided standout experiences. During the Royal Norfolk Show, he had the honour of meeting HRH The Princess Royal and has since connected with influential figures in the sector, including RNAA CEO Mark Nicholas. These interactions have strengthened his ambition to make a meaningful contribution to the industry at both local and regional levels.
Looking ahead, Samuel believes that attending high‑level agricultural conferences will play a vital role in his development. He hopes to deepen his understanding of the issues shaping the sector, build relationships within the farming community and enhance his ability to contribute to discussions around agricultural resilience and innovation.
Speaking about the upcoming RASC Commonwealth Agriculture Conference in Cape Town, South Africa in November, he added “I believe the high-status nature of the event and its speakers and attendees, will create an exciting environment conducive to interesting conversations and discussions, regarding the current challenges facing agriculture and potential opportunities for solutions.”
Samuel identifies three key challenges he believes UK agriculture will face over the next five years:
Coming from a non‑farming background, Samuel brings a fresh perspective and a strong desire to drive positive change. His commitment to education, combined with his practical experience and emerging leadership skills, positions him as a valuable contributor to the future of Norfolk’s agricultural sector.
