The Late Roger Clarke

Former veterinary head steward Roger Clarke a former head steward and Honorary Vice-President of the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association, has died aged 84.
For almost a quarter of a century, Mr Clarke, who had set up practice at Acle, was part of the veterinary team at the Royal Norfolk Show.

Mr Clarke, who stood down as chief veterinary steward in 2012, was elected an honorary vice-president in recognition of his long service. He became a steward in 1990 when the late Oliver Illing was head steward and in 2002 succeeded to that role.

Mr Clarke, born in Downham Market in 1940, started the practice and the Anchorage Veterinary Hospital in Acle in the late 1960s. He set up his practice, supported by his wife Marna. He was also a long-standing member of Stalham Farmers’ Club and served on Acle parish council until 2011.

 

Mr Clarke, who died on April 26, 2025, is survived by his wife Marna. A funeral service will be held at St Edmund’s Church, Acle on Friday, May 23 (11am) Family flowers only.

Donations for Nelson’s Journey or Acle Voluntary Aid (AVA) may be given at the service.
