We are delighted to announce that The 2017 Great Norfolk Scarecrow Competition was won by Town Close School, with the wonderful singing scarecrow!
We’re inviting people from across Norfolk to get creative and make your own scarecrow. Compete to be the best in this fun competition at the RNAA’s HarFest one-day autumn fair, held at Norwich Cathedral Close on Saturday 7 October.
This year’s theme is ‘Hay and Harvest’.
We invite you to be inspired by the fruits of the Harvest and Norfolk’s wide ranging colourful and interesting produce.
Who can enter?
Entries are welcome from anyone who lives or works in Norfolk. Individuals, businesses, schools and groups are all invited to enter.
There is no charge for entering, but only one entry per individual/group is allowed.
Scarecrows will be displayed during HarFest on Saturday 7 October.
You can deliver your scarecrow to the RNAA tent located on the Upper Green, Cathedral Close on Friday 6 October 2-5pm or Saturday 7 October 8-9am.
Judging will take place by public vote throughout the day and winners will be announced at 3pm.
The top three winning scarecrows will be displayed in the Cathedral for the Harvest Service on Sunday 8 October 2017. All other scarecrows can be collected between 4-5pm on Saturday 7 October. All scarecrows not claimed will be found a loving field.
Hints and tips
Entries must be a single scarecrow.
Scarecrows must have an agricultural theme.
Scarecrows must include at least one element of harvest produce.
They should be well made and made from scratch. Entrants are encouraged to use recycled materials but scarecrows should be substantial, with no loose or easily detachable parts, and able to withstand all weather conditions.
Props may be used to enhance the scarecrow.
Scarecrows must be no taller than 1.8m (6ft).
Prizes are available for the three most popular scarecrows as voted for by the visitors to HarFest. The prizes will be as follows:
1st prize – One family ticket to Norfolk Spring Fling (10 April 2018) and one family ticket to the Royal Norfolk Show (27-28 June 2018). Or five adult/child tickets for each event if a group, school or business.
2nd prize – One family ticket to the Royal Norfolk Show (27-28 June 2018). Or five adult/child tickets for each event if a group, school or business.
3rd prize – One family ticket to Norfolk Spring Fling (10 April 2018).
